Naval Fixed Bale Helmet
The McCord fixed bale shell is numbered 301C and has been painted with a 2” grey/blue band.
A few days before D-day all Naval personnel were instructed to paint their helmets so that the naval units on the beach could be easily recognised amongst the hordes of army soldiers.
The helmet has brass raised bar and hook chin straps.
The Firestone liner has been left in its green factory paint finish. The cotton suspension held to the shell by unpainted steel A washers. The leather chin strap is made by United Carr.
These type of helmets where used by USN personnel, naval demolition units and Seabee engineer units.
The helmet is named Arthur I Chancellor on the leather sweat band.
