Concrete Chocolate Block
The south coast of England was used for the embarkation of troops and equipment for the invasion of Europe. Concrete mats shaped like big chocolate blocks were used to reinforce the shingle beach for heavy traffic.
The concrete was reinforced with metal to allow it to support the heavy weight of armor being loaded onto the landing crafts.
