Col Arthur H Kennedy 101st Airborne 502nd PIR
Colonel Arthur Hobbs Kennedy was born into an army family in 1922. His own army career started in 1941 as a SGT 63rd Infantry 6th Division. He transferred into the 101st Airborne and was a member of the 502nd PIR all the way through WW2, mostly with G company but latterly with I company.
As far as I can see he missed the jump into Normandy, as he came over the UK in July 44 in time to take part in Holland and in the Battle of the Bulge in and around Bastogne.
He served in the US Army for 30 years, retiring in 1971 as a Colonel.
He was awarded the following:
*Presidential Unit Citation with a Cluster*
*The Belgian Fourragere 1940 and the Belgian Croix De Guerre 1940 with Palm*
*The Dutch Orange Lanyard of Netherlands*
*The French Croix De Guerre with Palm.*
*Legion of Merit with two Clusters,*
*Two Bronze Stars for valor*
*The Purple Heart*
*Combat Infantry Badge with Star*
*The Department of Defence Commendation Medal*
*The Army Commendation Medal*
*The Master Parachutists Badge*.
Please do take a minute to read through the list of his postings, and appreciate the career this truly amazing soldier led.
After he retired from military service in 1971 he gained a Masters Degree in Education and he spent the rest of his working life teaching maths.
