Officers Painted M-1 Helmet
This McCord Fixed Bale officer painted helmet not only has a LT bar painted on the front but it also has a vertical ETO bar painted on the rear.
ETO bars made it easy to recognise officers in the field of operation, the only downside is it acted as a target to German snipers.
The helmet shell also seems to have signs of a black overspray camouflage.
The Westinghouse liner also bears the painted markings. The cotton suspension is held to the liner by unpainted steel A washers. Interestingly the nape strap has been replaced with a Rayon strap.
This helmet is part of a grouping, the 2nd part of which can be found in the German Souvenir helmet section. This solider was involved in the liberation of Cherbourg, the German helmet was a souvenir from the battle.
