Glen Wood CB's Grouping Utah Beach
Glen Wood was a member of the 81st CB Battalion on Utah beach. The CB’s (construction battalion) were assigned the task to run rhino ferries on Utah beach. Rhino ferries where floating pontoons that would ferry vehicles and supplies from landing crafts and ships to the beach.
In the pictures you will see a Caterpillar bulldozer that was used to winch the ferries onto the beach, then re-float them
if the tide was out.
The other unique feature of the this photo album is the pictures of the prisoner pens on Utah beach, all German POW’s from the area would be brought to the beach to be held before being transported to POW camps.
The photo album gives a great insight into the work that was carried out by the CB’s post D-Day on Utah beach.
