U.S.C.G M-1 Helmet
The McCord fixed bale shell is numbered 531C and has been painted with the letters USCG.
A few days before D-day all Naval personnel where instructed to paint their helmets so that the naval units on the beach could be easily recognised amongst the hordes of army soldiers.
This example has been simply painted with the USCG letters on the front of the helmet shell. The brass raised bar helmet straps have the name Fraser on them.
The Westinghouse liner has the USCG shield painted on the front of the liner. The cotton suspension is also named and held to the shell by painted A washers.
The leather chin strap is made by United Carr and the hardware is brass.
The Coast Guard were brought in to man landing crafts as they had flat bottom boat and shallow water experience.
